“No Cave ”

MR. FORBES’ STATEMENT MEMBERS’ REPRESENTATIONS Special to Times. WELLINGTON, Last Night. There were no further developments to-day in connection with the move several members of the Coalition have started to iuduce the Government to modify its policy as disclosed in the National Expenditure Adjustment Bill. Representations have been made to the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) and the Minister of Finance (I-lon. W. Downio Stewart), and the proposition advanced was that the proposed wages cut. in the public service should be abandoned in favour of an increase iu the wages tax to 1/6 in the £l. Opinions, it is said, vary as to the reception accorded the proposal. When questioned about the reported hostile group in his party, Mr. Forbes said bo knew of no cave. He admitted there were some differences of opinion over the bill, but asked whether anyone really liked the measure. "The bill is necessary,” Mr. Forbes said, “and nobody can describe it as popular.”
