Ostrich Easily Outdone
ME-AL OF NITRIC ACID AND SNAKE’S HEAD United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright. CALCUTTA, March 15. Glass, china, wood, cocoanut shells, nails, nitric acid and a snake’s head were swallowed by L. A. Rao, the Hie du ascetic, in a demonstration of his powers before Lord Lothian and members of the Indian Franchise Committee and prominent British and Indian citizens at Bombay. Members of the audience stood behind Rao during his performance. They put nails into his mouth, and inspected the snake’s fangs before he bit its head off. The hand of one of the guests was burned with strong nitric acid, while handling a bottle, the contents of which Rao drank.
