Previous Baby Kidnapping Plot
NEW ANGLE ON LINDBERGH CASE. New York Times Broadcast. HOPEWELL, N.J., March 16. Reports of an abduction plot, planned last November and involving six persons, of whom two are detained iu Jersey City, contributed tho only spectacular developments-in the xfindbergh kidnapping case to-day. it was admitted in official circles that the police are as far from a solution of the crime as ever. The Jersey City angle was a development of previous stories in wh'ch a mysterious convict, now a prisoner on Welfare Island, is said to figure. William Gleason, of Oliffsidc, who is said to have a police record, and a Mrs. Danusek were being questioned during the day by Jersey City and Newark police. It was reported that Betty Gow, the Lindbergh nursemaid, was to be taken to Jersey City to aid in the investigation. At a.late hour to-day Miss Gow was still at the Hopewell resi-
dence. Four more men "associated with treason, it was understood, arc being sought ty police. Chief of Police Brex, of Newark, after questioning the Jersey City couple several hours, announced that the real name of the mysterious Welfare Island prisoner is Charles Oliver and that he had been a fellow prisoner with Gleason in the Hudson county gaol about six months ago. Oliver had informed New York authorities that Gleason proposed the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby at that time. During to-day's questioning, Gleason insisted that it was Oliver who had proposed tho kidnapping, and that he lad refused to join in if.
It was announced that tho woman hold a 3 “Airs. Danusek" was Airs. Catherine Dunchek, who conducts a boarding-house. Apparently she has no knowledge of the kidnapping, and she will bo released, according to Brex.
