Wanganui Education Board

(Special to Times.) WANGANUI, Last Night. The monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was hold to-day. Present were: Messrs. E. F. Hemingway (acting-chairman), M. H. Oram, J. Coleman, J. K. Hornblow, J. S. Tingey, J. Aitkcn, W. Adams, W. S. Wood roof c. The committee of West End school reported that they wished to level and drain a portion of tho two acres of playground. It was decided to fence off that portion. The committee also asked for extra lavatory accommodation, garbage tins, incinerator, doormats, etc. “Perhaps they anticipate a 10 per cent, cut,’’ said Mr. Tingey. The matter was left to the architect.

Air. J. M. Pearson, Palmerston North, was given permission to dispose of the surplus materials left after the reeonstmotion of Palmerston North Central school.

It was reported that the Board of Managers had taken over contiol of classes at the Peilding Manual Training school, and were most satislicd with tlie arrangement made by tko Education Beard. The domestic science instructress of Palmerston North Manual training school reported that the cookery room had again boon broken into. The secretary said that although the materials stolen had been locked in cupboards, the things disappeared. It was thought that the thief or thieves came through the woodwork room.

“Cannot we provide more precautions?” said Air. Oram. It was agreed that the architect and Air. Oram decide on what precautions should be teken.

The architect was asked to report on the playground at Tokorangi in resr onso to a request from the committee that something should be dune to improve the conditions there. ‘ ‘Bixty children to a quarter of an acre is not good,” said the chairman.

The chairman reported that the following appointments have been confirmed:— Gonville, F. A. Stevens, assistant; Iviwitea, AI. Weeks, assistant; Ilalcombe, C. AI. Alunro, assistant; Kimbolton, 0. J. Crowe, assistant; Alton, E. AI. Sutherland, assistant; Parewanui, E. E. Paterson, assistant.
