Cricket in Feilding

7 NEW ROUND COMMENCES. FEILDING AND OLD BOYS SCORE WELL. A new round in the Feilding Cricket Association’s senior competition commenced oil; Saturday when Feilding met Old Boys and Colyton were matched against Public Service. Weather conditions were dull and overcast and the dry outfield favoured the runmakers.

On tho main wicket Feilding opened against Old Boys, Laing and G. Harding being the commencing bats. The former failed to survive Bramwell’s first over and vacated for Donaldson, who after hitting a single was caught and bowled by Whitehead. Harding batted steadily and with Nool Fitzpatrick made a partnership which saw Feilding’s stock rise. At 16 Fitzpatrick was caught off Bramwell by Whitehead and the vacancy was filled by E. M. Hare, whose rc-appearancc in Feilding cricket, was most welcome. He quickly settled down and punished anything loose. His effort produced 25 and McElroy who followed hit out for 28 with Harding still registering runs. At S2 Harding was stumped by L. Penney and left the field a proved bat, with close upon 300 runs or more to his credit, since he devoted his college vacation to helping the Feilding Club. Henry Dewe supplied a nice 25 and the innings closed late in the afternoon for a total of 206. Amadio took three wickets for 44, and Bramwell 4 for 60. Old Boys opened with Amadio and Connell and both bats were early disposed of by H. Dewo for a total of 15. J. Dcwc and S. Bramwell soon captured the bowling and wero providing a bright partnership when time came. The game will resume on Saturday next when Dewe (45) and Bramwell (23) will continue their strike.

Tho wicket for the Colyton v. Public Service match was bumpy and bats did not have a happy time. Colyton with threo players short, opened unpromisingly, but Telford and H. Fitzherbert combined well to arrest the bowling. These two got into doublo figures and the team was jubilant when W. Power carried his bat for 29, which included a beautiful six. The innings closed for 81. Stephenson took four wickets for 41, and Barltrop 3 for 29.

Public Service have lost seven wickets for 152 and are in a strong position. L. I. Wild and Stephenson were partners in a bright batting effort, the latter scoring runs rapidly until he reached 42 when ho was given out l.b.w. off Power. Wild made his effort entertaining and although the leather was jumping at uncertain curves his strokes connected with scoring effect, ■> atil he missed a straight one from Fitzherbert, sent., which carried his middle stump. C. B. McClure also found the bowling difficult, but he held his wicket up until the time came. "Mr. Extras” supplied 25 of the total. The following are the details:— Feilding v. Old Boys.
