Bowling Centre Holds Pairs Championship
PALMERSTON NORTH AND TERRACE END TO MEET IN THE PINAL Thirteen pairs from clubs affiliated to the Manawatu Boiling Centre participated in the annual champion of champions pairs competition commenced at the Terrace End Club's greens on Saturday morning. Mr. A. E. Wimsett wa3 in charge of the'tourney and, as a result, play was advanced almost to the final stages at the conclusion of the day, the weather keeping fine although not. entirely pleasant for the occasion. After the semi-finals were staged the Terrace End representatives (Christiansen and Johnson, skip) remained to play the final with Palmerston North (Mowlem and Bary, skip), these pairs defeating Levin (Langelan and Monks, skip) and Dannevirko (Osborne and Ta.tcre, skip) respectively. The play throughout was of a particularly high standard and the semifinals produced a sensational finish. It is announced that the final game, to decide the champion, parr, will be arranged foT this week. The play resulted:--Plrst Round. Eeilding ( Williamson and Ramsay, skip) 20 v. Foxton (Roore and Thompson, skip) 12. Terrace End (Christiansen and Johnson, skip) 16 v. Takuro (Morgan and Tantrum, skip) 15. -v Levin (Langelan and Monks, skip) 25 v. Woodville (James and Ouming, skip) 24. Palmerston North (Mowlejn and Bary, skip) 20 v. Northern (Btallard and Laicomb, skip) 22. Shannon (Moakeg and Morgan, skip) 25 v. Aroua (Aitkon and Simpson, 3kip) 14. Manawatu, Dannevirke and EKetakuna had byes. Second Round. Terrace End 27 v. 1 cilding 17, Palmerston North 34 V. Shannon 9. Manawatu (Gilbert and Barnes, skip) 19 v. Dannevirko (Osborne and Tatcre, skip) 21. Levin 22 v. Ekctahuna (Winks and Mead, skip) 17. Semi-finals, Terrace End 20 v. Levin 19. ' Palmerston North 23 y. Dannevirke 13. In the former game Terrace End drew a shot at the back of the kitty while Monks was lying the shot in front. When measured only the narrowest distance separated the counting bowls and Johnson just won. .The Finalists. Terrace End (Christiansen and Johnson, skip) will meet Palmerston North (Mowlern and Bary, skip) in the final match to be played this week.
