Good Haul From Hotel Safe

THIEF OR THIEVES MISS FURTHER SUM. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Cash, and notes to the value of £lO7 wero stolen from a safe in the Post Office hotel at Wellington some time between midnight and G. 30 a.m. this morning. The indications point to the burglary being committed in somewhat of hurry, and the thief or thieves failed to take a further £63 in notes which were lying in a steel drawer in the safe. In the opinion of the proprietor of the hotel, Mr. S. J. Whitcford, the thief was in the building before closing time, 6 o’clock, when the front door was closed. Mr. Whitcford considers that the thief secreted himself upstairs and lay in wait for a suitable opportunity to gain possession of the keys, which Mrs. Whitcford kept under her pillow.
