From Our Own Correspondent,. A highly respected resident of the district, Mr. Turley Smout, passed away very suddenly at his homo on INorscwobd road on Tuesday evening. Ihe deceased gentleman had attended tne Umutoi stock sale in the afternoon and was apparently in good- health, but shortly after returning to his farm he suffered a heart seizure and expired almost immediately. The late Mi. Smout was born in Muchwenloch, Cornwall, England, Co years ago, and camo to New Zealand as a child. For many years lie lived in the Moutoa district, but 30 years ago he took up land at Umutoi, which lie had since farmed most successfully. Much sympathy is felt with Mrs. Smout (nee Miss Catherine Malone) and the children, Mr. G. Smout and the Misses Mario and I eggy Smout.. Mrs. A. Pettigrew (Palmerston North) and Mrs. It. Southey (Kiwitahi) arc sisters of the deceased. Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Stewart, of the Manse, arc spending a holiday in Shannon. Miss M. Caldwell, of North Auckland, has been the guest of Mrs. It. Miller. Mr. and Mrs. J. Johnston, of Fcilding, are staying with Mrs. J, B. Pettigrew, of Table Plat. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Churchill and family have returned from Wellington. Mr" W. Wilson, of Okato, and formerly Methodist home missionary in Apiti, and Mrs. Wilson, aro visiting friends in the district. Mr. D. Prydo, of Peilding, is at present the gucAt of Mr. and Mrs. G. Cowan,
