Combined Friendly Societies’ Picnic
ENJOYABLE OUTING AT THE GORGE
The combined friendly societies of Palmerston North and Woodvillo held their annual picnic at tho Ballanco bridge yesterday, and a most enjoyable time was tpent by thoso who attended. The weather broke line, but in the afternoon scattered showers compelled tho sports committee to curtail tho programmo of events which had been mapped out. Tho attendance was largo and there must have been at least 1000 people present. Following are the results of the athletic events run during tho afternoon: Blindfold race, J. Mabey; boys, (12 to 15), S. Strand 1, C. Grundy 2, T. Upston 3; girls’ wheelbarrow race, M. Collier and if. Dyer, and E. and J. Dyer (dead heat) 1, M. Bacon and N, Strakcr 3; boys’ wheelbarrow race, A. Arrow and E. Jobnston 1, A. and W. Kaye 2, J. Stevens and C. Mason 3; married ladies’ Taco, Mrs. Wardlo I, Mrs. Cairns 2, Mrs. Lcs'lio 3; married men’s race, G. Duthio 1, IV, C. Terry 2, J. Hutchinson 3; single ladies’ race, E. Checkley I, R. Sweetman 2, J, Kayo 3; girls (under 6), B. Leslio 1, A. Gray 2, E. Kayo 3; boys (under 6), J. Btcvcris and A. Checkley (dead heat) 1, N, Randle 3, C. Barkwith 4; girls (G to 9), P.
