Car Knocks Motor Lorry Across Road

COLLISION IN PITZHERBERT AVENUE

What might easily have resulted in a very serious accident occurred at the intersection of Fitzhcrbert avenue and Ferguson street about 9.45 o’clock yesterday morning, when a car collided with a motor lorry. Fortunately, however, no one was injured, although both vehicles suffered as the result of the impact. Within a few minutes of the collision a fairly largo crowd had gathered to view the after-effects of tho smash. A motor lorry, laden with cans of cream and driven by- Charles Frederick Currie, of Ashhurst, had been proceeding to tho city when a thrcc-seatcr Ford, driven by Mr. Jack Coop, of Palmerston North, and containing two lady passengers, emerged from Ferguson street west and collided rvith the larger vehicle. The brakes had already been applied by the car driver, but when it hit the lorry, which, together with its load, weighed Si tons, tho car knocked the truck sideways so that it ran across the road and came to rest against the kerb and adjacent to a telegraph polo. The Ford proceeded, but was extensively damaged, while the lorry had its steering gear wrecked.
