The 16 best aggregates for the middle-weight championship (best two of three qualifying rounds) were as follow:

A. E. E. Joblin .. .. 175 J. F. Field .. ... .. .. .. •• 181 F. Bendall .. .. .. •• >• 182 N. G. Ingham .. .. ISS .T. W. Eodden 183 Dr. E. Hooper .. 184 E. A. Bennett .. • • ... 184 A. M. Hamilton 197 L. M. Abraham .. .. .... 198

The competition is open to players ■with handicaps of from 12 to 18 incluBive and will be decided over 18 holes, match play. Interesting Competition Anticipated. It is anticipated that there will be yery keen competition for the middleweight championship and he will bo a bold man who attempts to forecast the final result. It was expected that Joblin would have a chance of pulling off the honours, but he was eliminated by L. M. Abraham in the first game. Abraham was sixteenth to qualify but his experience must have played an important part in the result. While being on to his game through the greens he has not been convincing near the pin. Joblin has been playing well lately but in his match with Abraham it was his putting which let him down. Field (12) is drawn to play Hamilton (15) and a good game should result. Field’s handicap was 20 last season, but, thanks to summer golf, he chopped 8 off it and is at present playing to his handicap. Hamilton is evidently improving for he has reduced his handicap by a couple since the beginning of the season. N. G. Ingham (11) started golf last season, but it did,not take him long to get a grasp of the game. He handles a useful stick and has been putting up some fine rounds. He meets Barnhill in the first round. Barnhill’s handicap is 18, but he is one of the old school and can be depended upon to give Ingham a run for his money. A. M. Ongley (16) meets J. M. Gibson (13), a newcomer to the club. Ongley is a very steady player and one who believes in playing safe, being raTely off the direct lino to the pin. Gibson has not yet figured in club matches. The match between F. Bendall (14) and E. C. Abraham (15) should be another interesting one. J. W. Eodden (13) and E. B. Lucas [(12) are evenly matched on paper. Eodden is one of the young and enthusiastic golfers who started the game last year, while Lucas is a seasoned player. Eodden has made rapid strides at the game but his opponent has been playing well lately and a good game should result. The game between Dr. Hooper and F. Cousins will attract a good deal of interest ,proving as it will a contrast in styles. Hooper’s handicap is 16 and Cousins’ 13. Hooper hits a very sweet hall and is very sound in every department. He is one of the new players, but shows the same aptitude for the game as he did for tennis. Cousins has an unorthodox style, but he keeps on the. line and is a hard man to beat. Colonel Whyte (14) meets E. A. Bennett (13). To quote the words of a famous admiral, “The Colonel seems to do everything wrongly at golf but he gets results all the time.” His opponent ranks higher on the handicapping list and is a very determined player, but he will have to produce his best to carry the (lay.
