Fine Rescue in Icy Wafer
75-YARD SWIM IN LYTTELTON HARBOUR Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Swimming 75 yards through icy water at Governor’s Bay, at the head of Lyttelton harbour, this evening, G. Healey rescued J. Manhirc from drowning after Mauhiro luid fallen into the sea from the jetty, Manhirc is a moderate swimmer, but was hampered by heavy clothes and was carried away by tho outgoing tide. Ho appeared 20 yards from the shore, calling for help and drifting out rapidly. A lifebuoy was thrown, but failed to reach him. Healey then stripped and swam out with a rope, reaching Manhire when ho was 75 yards from the shore. A third man pulled them in to safety. Mauliire was exhausted when he reached the jetty.
