PERSONALITIES
Mr. B. Grant, stock inspector of the Department of Agriculture, Palmerston North, is making satisfactory progress from his indisposition. Mr. H. E. Keys, of Levin, who had the misfortune to sustain a fracture of the thigh on Saturday last, is making satisfactory progress in the Palmerston North hospital. He has rallied from the shock following the accident, and has condition is comfortable.
Mr. H. E. Barrowclough, prior to his departure from Dunediu for Auckland, was farewelled by the Dominion Chamber of Commerce. The president said that Mr. Barrowclough had made his mark as a barrister, and in Auckland he would find still greater scope for his ability. Special mention was made by speakers of the part the guest had played in the public life of the city. The Aero Club, of which he was president, made presentations to Mr. Barrowclough. From 1907 to 19111 Mr. Barrowclough was a pupil of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School, passing the matriculation examination and gaining a junior university scholarship. “Anyone who has had anything to do with croquet realises the debt the whole of the croquet community of New Zealand owed to the late Mr. C. A. E. Ferguson, of Palmerston North," stated the chairman (Rev. C. H. Isaacson) at the annual general meeting ot the Manawatu Croquet Association when moving that the very deepest sympathy be accorded Mrs. Ferguson (lion, secretary and treasurer) in the death of her husband recently. A letter was also received at the meeting from the New Zealand Croquet Council, of which Mr. Ferguson had been secretary for a number of years, expressing its sincere regret at the passing ot the deceased gentleman who had worked so assiduously in the interests of the gamo generally.
