“RESURRECTION” FOR THE SHANNON TALKIES.
“ Reserreetion ” screens at the Shannon talkies to-day and to-morrow. This stirring flesh-and-blood drama of the great Tolstoy’s immortal story is gripping new fans every day for the talking version which Edwin Oarewe has so capably directed for Universal Pictures adds uncanny realism to the vivid action. The Tolstop epic of prince and peasant which has been published in almost every language is a throbbing, emotional narrative splendidly portrayed by John Boles and Lupe Velez m the principal roles. Boles has never given a finer screen performance than he does, in the role of Prince Dmitri. His golden voice is also given broad expression in several dramatic episodes with the little peasant maid, Katusha Maslova, played exquisitely by Lupe Velez. Critics have openly agreed that in “Resrurection,” this fiery Latin star demonstrates a rare understanding of deep drama for the first time in a screen role, and proves herself a great dramatic actress. The story has been faithfully produced and nothing lias been spared that could add to its magnificence and Tealism. Director Oarewe has fulfilled his promise to preserve the spirit of Tolstoy's work to the final chapter, which keeps the audience in suspense until the last 70 feet of the film. Nance O’Neil, William Keighley, Rose Tapley and others of the supporting cast offer fine performances. ‘ * Resurrection” is a truly great picture and bids fair to take its place among the superior screen plays of the decade.
