Bunnythorpe
(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Methodist Church Concert.
In spite ol it being a wet night about 120 to 140 people gathered in me Buuuytliorpo hall on Wednesday re hear the line programme winen was rendered by the Cuoa Street Methodist Choir in aid ol the circuit and Foreign Mission funds of the Bunnythoipe Church. Mr. and Mrs, U. H. James arranged lor the concert party, wincli was unuer the skilful leadership of Air. 11. T. Ditcher (elioirmaster) and Mr. W. Fiatt (organist;, and consisted ol about thirty iauies and gentlemen. Rev. It. E. Fordyce presided, and welcomed tho visitors. In the first part of the programme individual items were rendered, and were much appreciated. Later various portions of me cantata “XUo Rolling seasons,” charmed tlio enthusiastic audience for about an Hour. No one could foci dull while such a programme was in progress and the audience was very emphatic in its applause of tho various items, lu the cantata the soloists were: Miss R. Birch, L.T.C.L., L.A.8., (soprano), Mrs. R. Twiggo (Contralto), Mr. J. Knowles (tenor), and Mr. J. Perrin (bass), if, is a lung while since a programme of this order has been heard in Bunnythorpe, and it provided very real pleasure to an appreciative and courteous audience. Mr. J. VV. Clcvely, one ol the church trustees, cordially thanked Mr. Pitcher and his choir for the very enjoyable programme which they had provided. He also expressed thanks to Mr. and Mrs. James for arranging for the concert which had proved so successful. Thanks were expressed to all who had assisted in the evening's pleasant function. On behalf of the Cuba Street Choir, Rev, J. D. McArthur (president) replied in a few suitable words. A vote of thanks was also accorded to tho motorists who had conveyed the party from Palmerston North. Mr. J. Scheidt and a party of men kindly attended to the cartage of the musical instruments and a number of scats, and were duly thanked. Mr. Gordon Lassen was assisted in the duties of doorkeeper by several young men of tlio Bible class.
Miss E. Birch, L.T.C.L., L.A.8., and Miss Jackson opened tho programme with a pianoforte duct, and were followed by Miss Morgan who sang. Mr. J. Perrin sang and responded to an encore. Two Hawaiian items were given by Misses Kent and Chilton, attired in Hawaiian costume and accompanied by Miss Lorna Perrin on the steel guitar on which she later rendered an item. Miss Vera Hansen amused the audience with her recitations. Miss J. Young, in native costume, rendered two greatly enjoyed Maori songs. Mr, H. T. Pitcher responded to an encore, and finished his item by persuading the audience to sing the chorus of his humorous song. Messrs Screech (senr. and junr.) closed the first part of the programme with a dialogue for which they had to respond to an encore. The accompanists were Misses R. Birch, Twiggc and Jackson, and Mr. W. Platt. Later, the members of the concert party were entertained to supper by members of the Ladies' Guild, under the leadership of Mrs. J. Schcidt (president). Mr. Perrin thanked the ladies for their hospitality.
