Gift Evening for Bride-to-be

On Friday last a gift evening was given in honour of Miss Nita Batchetar, who is to be married this week, and will bo leaving for the South Island, where she will iu future reside. A largo crowd of residents from Linton and tne surrounding districts attended. During tho evening, Mr. T. Lynch, on behalf of all present, wished Miss Batchelar every naiipiness and expressed regret that she was leaving the district % which she had grown up. Her cheory disposition had won for her a large circle of friends, and he said the well-laden tables witn their beautiful gifts were sufficient testimony r.o the popularity of the guests of honour. He then asked Miss Batchelar to accept tho gifts with the best wishes of her friends both for herself and her iiance, Mr. J. Craw. On behalf of the Linton Women's Institute, Airs. Nash presented Alis» Batchelar, who is the iirjt membor to be married, with a fire-screen with the best wishes of the members. Air. Craw and Miss Batchelar both thanked their kind friends. “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows" was then sung by all those present. Air. Jos. Batchelar also expressed his thanks. Enjoyable items were given by Mrs. Doreen Saunders and two of her pupils, Aiiss Alyra Reid, and Alan Northey, from Palmerston North. Vocal solos were rendered by Aliss Roberts, Aliss Williams (Tokomaru) and Miss Blake. Novelty dances were won by Aliss Heard and Mr. Brill, and Miss Foster and Air. Free. The music was kindly provided by tho local orchestra, assisted by Brill brothers (Aokautere), Airs. Jos. Batchelar, Mr. J. Nash and Air. N. Greer. An enjoyable, evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne." At tho invitation of Air. and Airs. Batchelar, a return evening was held on Wednesday last, when there was a large attendance. During the evening opportunity was taken by Mr. Lynch to express thanks to the host and hostess for a delightful evening.
