Dannevirke Hospital Board

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Dannevirke Hospital Board was held on Wednesday, when there were present Messrs L.Stein (chairman) J Miller, G. Peebles, J. Harding, E. H. Morgan, L. G. Crosse and A. H. Hanson. Leave of absence was granted. to Messrs. R. E. Bunny, P. C. Smith and H. Frcdorickson. ■■ ... „ The Director General of Health forwarded approval of the acceptance of Messrs A and T. Burt's tender of £9O for three’ calorifiors, and £26 for one stcrilser and two urns; also approval of the tender of Jenkins and Mack, Ltd., for one pulsometer pump and motor. , , , , The Treasury Department forwarded a Gazette notice containg Order-in-Council consenting to the heating loan of £2OOO and the land exchange, loan of £6OO. —The action of the chairman in going to Wellington for the purpose of finalising the loans was approved. Tho Dannevirke Friendly Societies wrote expressing appreciation of the board's decision not to increase patients’ fees. The matron (Miss Brown) reported that during the recent month the hospital had been moderately busy. Nurses Spensley and Wilmott wee successful at the recent State examinations. The Nurses ‘and Midwives Registration Board had appointed Srnter E. Liepst

one of the examiners for midwifery and maternity nurses. Installation of the new boating system was well in hand. Underneath the flooring of tho men'B ward dry rot had been discovered in the joist. The Rotary Club gave an enjoyablo concert on Tuesday evening, which was greatly appreciated iy patients and staff. Tho Municipal. and Salvation Army Bands visited tho hospital during tho month. Gifts had been received from Mrs. J. Holden (fruit), Miss Stanley and “ Anonymous" (magazines), Mrs. Bickford (scrap books), High School (sweets.) It Was decided to congratulate Sister Leipst upon her appointment. Tho report was adopted. The medical superintendent (Dr. W. Beedie) reported that there were in hospital 55 patients—2o women, 21 men, 13 children, and one scarlet fever case in isolation. He suggested that a viewing box for X-ray films be obtained, which wouid be most helpful in the interpretation of X-ray photographs. It was resolved to obtain prices for the box suggested and the report was adopted. It was resolved that authority be given tho Finance Committee to have repairs effected to the flooring in the men’s ward and also to enlarge tho study in tho Nurses' Home so as to provide a lecture and board Toom. A deputation from tho Dannevirke Relief of Distress Committee, comprising his Worship the Mayor (Mr. M. D. Smith), Rev. J. T. Macky, Captain Wallace and Mrs W. A. Packard, waited upon the board to seek the board’s co-operation in the relief of distross in Dannevirke, a good deal of the discussion taking place in committee. Upon resuming open meeting the Mayor thanked the board for having received the deputation. Accounts totalling £1447 2/3 were passed for payment.
