WEST COAST COMPANIES ANNUAL MEETING HELD Mr. 3. A. Broadbelt (Lovin) presided over tho annual meeting of tho Manawatu and West Coiist Dairy Companies’ Association held-at Palmerston .North, yesttfrday. There were also present Messrs Stiles (Shannon)., Dernier (Cheltenham), Knudscn (Whakarongo), Campbell and Hansen (Awahuri) and Gloyn, Davidson and Foster (Rongotea). > Annual Review. “I have to'report that your executive has held frequent meetings, during the past year, and has endeavoured to keep in touch with- matters" affecting the industry, as a whole,” stated the chairman in his annual report. “Tho executive will at all times welcome suggestions for the good of tfie industry, and if approved, will do their best to have such suggestions put into operation. A considerable time was spent by your committee on the question of overlapping of cream lorries, and the amalgamation of dairy companies’ resources, which so far has resulted in a very valuable report having been obtained from Mr. D. O. w miams, of Massey College, which report was circulated to all companies who are members of the association, and while this has not resulted, up to the present, in anything of a practical nature being dono in the direction indicated, never-, theless we feel that the report will be of much value in the future. I feel that the association is deserving of your continued support, and trust that dairy companies will make more and more use of the organisation.’’ General. The Okoia and Wangaehu Dairy Companies having advised that they were resigning from the association, it was decided to ask them to reconsider their decision.

The chairman, commenting upon the year’s work, - said that the fact that there was not an exceptionally large attendance was probably indicative of the harmonious working of the dairy industry in tho district. The association must take tho credit for fathering a number of committees which had done valuable work, for the dairy industry. Local marketing of butter had occupied considerable attention, and’ a committee had been working in that direction, for 1 twelve months. The position was well in hand and it would not be long before definite results were achieved. Thero was a better tone among factories in the- Wellington .province today, mainly as the outcome of the association ’s activities, than there had ever been before in -tho history of the intion should be constantly'increased and

costs reduced to an absolute minimum. Better selling methods would have steadily to be evolved, and Mr. Broadbelt was of the opinion that the butter fat trado could bo developed considerably. :> The report and balance-sheet wcro adopted on tho motion of the chairman, Mr. Campbell seconding. Mr. Stiles paid a tribute to tho energy and enthusiasm of the chairman. Mr. Dormer said that perhaps tho work done by tho association was not appreciated as fully as it should be. Dairy companies should receivo a circular setting out tho activities of tho association in order that there should bo no apathetic attitude.
