Huge Deficit Reported For French Railways
PLANS FOR PLACING LINES ON ECONOMIC BASIS. United Press Association.—By Electrio Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Thursday, 12,30 a.m. PARIS, Aug. 12. The French railways' deficit for 193 U was £14,500,000 and judging by the half-year's returns it will be £22,500,000 in 1931. In order to place the lines on an economic basis it is proposed to raise fares by 25 per cent., close many stations and abolish certain local lines, substituting motor omnibus or light motovehicles using the railway lines.
