Tlio many friends of Mr. S. R. Evans, of the Princess hotel, Terrace End, will regret to learn that he is in hospital for an operation. It is understood that he will bo confined to bed for about three weeks.
Rov. 11. S. Conway, Dominion secretary of the China Inland Mission, andMr. Howard Knight, B.Sc., missionarydesignate, arrive in Palmerston North to-day from Wanganui. They will bo the guests of Rev. G. S. Matthews and Mrs. Matthews at the Baptist manse during their stay. The new Rabbi of Wellington, Rev. Solomon Katz, arrived from Auckland yesterday. He' was a passenger by the Niagara from Vancouver and spent a couple of days in Auckland, where he was stationed from 1911' till 1920. Then he left for America, and took a postgraduate course in the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, in New York. He was appointed a member of the Rabbinical Assembly of America, and then received a call from the Jewish congregations of Birmingham, Alabama, a city about twice the size of Wellington. There he hayl charge of two congregations —those of Bethel and Kncsseth Israel. He was subsequently appointed to New Rochelle, New York.
