Island That Does Not Exist
LONELY SPOT IN GREAT WHITE SOUTH. United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. SYDNEY, Aug. II.; Although nautical charts radicate the existence of the mysterious Dougherty Island in the Great Southern Ocean, Captain Maclvcnzic, master of the Discovery, upon the occasion of the last researen expedition, declares ho saw no sign of such an island. Tho discovery passed over the charted posi tion of Dougherty Island which is described as one of the ■most desolato spots in the great white South and soundings revealed 2472 fathoms of water. No land was seen and the visibility was good for twelve miles.
