Parking Area at Milson Aerodrome

WORK TO BE CARRIED OUT BY UNEMPLOYED Following a Teauest from the 'Am aon Aerodrome Society, the Kairanga County Council has agreed to prepare a parking area on Setter’s line adjoining the aerodrome, and the work is to be put in hand immediately. The labour will be engaged under the No. 5 scheme. Mr. H. A. Hamilton represented the Aerodrome Society and, in putting forward his request, ho asked that 30 chains fronting the aerodrome be levelled and made into a parking area, contending that it would provide work for from 30 to 40 unemployed. Mr. Hamilton explained that the society had £25 (a donation from the Automobile Association) in hand for the work, and that there was a possibility that this would be augmented by the association and also by the R.S.A., if unemployed ex-service men were given work on the job. Asking that the work be undertaken without delay, the speaker said that the road was cracking up badly. Tho chairman (Mr. J. Batchclar) agreed that Setter’s lino was far too narrow for. the traffic it had to carry. Mr. Hamilton added that the Aerodrome Society was prepared to. lodge tho money with the council if t'he work was to be undertaken. The acting-engineer (Mr. L. C. Pickering) : You hire tho teams and we will get tho unemployed. Tho county has no teams, but wo could got ono for you at a cost of 8/ a day. Cr. Collis: The cost of the team would come out of the £25. Mr. Hamilton: I take it you would metal the place at a later date? The chairman: Yes, if we can get the metal for nothing. Cr. Anderson: The road was never built to stand the traffic which is on it. Cr.. Small: There is nothing to stop us getting; on with the wotlc right away. There will be no necessity to provide transport; the job is only two miles and a half out. Tho chairman then intimated that the council would go into the matter, and Mr. Hamilton withdrew. The chairman asked what tho riding members thought about it. Cr. Anderson: Tho work will have to be done. The crown of the road could be shifted over, and later, when the weather is dry, the metal can be spread. Cr. Anderson moved that the work be carried out, the Aerodrome Society to pay for the team and the council to cart the metal during the summer months. This was eeconded by Cr. Morcer and carried.
