’’The National Council of Women of Canada has a unique opportunity at the present time for serving this country in a time of economic depression,” said Miss M. Winnifred Kydd to a correspondent of the Christian Science Monitor, following her election to the presidency. “Canada needs, as perhaps never before,” she continued, “steadfast belief in her potentialities as a nation; whole-hearted effort in tho alleviation of present conditions, and study and research that will tend to prevent their recurrence.” Questioned as to her immediate plans, sho replied that the national council has a challenge in three great fields for the coming year —unemployment relief, education and public health, and internationalism as embodied in the work of the League of Nations.
