In 1929—-tlie latest figures available —of the children medically examined in Britain on entering school 128,000, or 20.3 per cent., were found to require some form of medical treatment before .they were in a position to benefit from their education. So that it should not be crowded out by its own seedlings, the creosote bush of America drops its seeds and then spreads a poison on them which slows up germination.
