MAGISTRATE'S COURT The fortnightly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Dannevirko was commenced on Monday afternoon and continued yesterday, before Mr. J. Miller, S.M.

N. Yortt (Mr. E. Gibbard) charged with having allowed a horse to wander in Cole street, admitted a technical breach of tho by-lays. Counsel said the animal had got out owing to the gate being left open. The information was dismissed as trivial under Section 92 of tho Justice of tho Peace Act.

P. Carr (Mr. E. v Gabbard) was charged with having allowed, four horses to wander in Cole street. Counsel stated that tho fence had been blown down in a heavy gale. This information was dismissed under tho same section.

H. A. Henderson (Mr. T. Nelson) was convicted and ordered to pay costs 10/- for riding a motor cycle after sunset 'without a rear light. Jack Baker, similarly charged, said he had had his rear light attended to before leaving Woodvillo for Dannovirlto. Defendant was convicted and discharged. For having ridden a cycle at night without a light, James Jensen was fined 10/- with costs 10/-. For a similnr offence, 11. G. Dew was fined 15/- wil/i costs 12/-. On three charges concerning drunkenness and the breaking a probationary license and prohibition order, Carl Christensen, was convicted and discharged on tho first charge and on the other two charges, was ordered to come up for sentence if called within twelve months.

Charges against Thomas Gilkoolcy and Martin Casscrly, of aiding and abetting tho licensee of the Masonic Hotel in the commission of an offence, were dismissed, His Worship holding that there was not sufficient evidence to convict.

John James Patterson, solicitor, was charged with having failed to pay his unemployment levy for tho periods Decomber, March and June. Defendant pleaded not guilty on the grounds that he was exempt under the regulations. Defendant said he had put in a declaration as soon as the matter avas brought under his notice. Mr. E. A. Wood, Inspector of Factories, said the declaration had been forwarded to him and had been made on July Sth. The regulations provided that a man 05 years of ago whose income is less than £2 per week, is not liable to pay the levy. Defendant was convicted, tho penalty being held over until the result of defendant’s application for exemption was ascertained. Ada Gilmoro for £6 13/6, with costs £1 14/6. Norsewood Co-op. Dairy Coy. Ltd., v. H. Baines, for £5 2/5, with costs £1 1/-. C. E. Smith v. S. J. Jones for £5 5/with costs £2 4/-. Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-op, Association Ltd. v. E. Phillips for £lO 4/8, with costs £2 15/-; same v. D. Jurgcleit for £3 2/6 with costs £1 7/6. Gramophone and Radio Co. Ltd., v. N. P. Ncilsen for 6/- with costs S/-. Judgment Summons. D. H. Rae Douglas v. Richard Hay for £2- 8/- Dobtor, who did not appear, was ordered to pay forthwith in default three days’ imprisonment. Rent Claim A. M. John . A. C. Holm, claim for possession. An order was made for possession within a fortnight, and judgment given for plaintiff, by default, for £lO rent wit! costs £2 1/-.
