Completely moenmg pedestrian traffic in wo busy city streets tnou,sancis of people gatnereu in wide queues to-day for tickets in tne first State lottery, the official opening ox which was marked by remarkable scenes. Hundreds oT people assembled at six in the morning and hundreds more were unable to buy tickets. So great was the crush that tne large staff was unable to cope with it. Women seemed to predominate, but a large percentage of the men were obviously unemployed. The magnificent building of the State Government Savings Bank, formerly handling millions of the people’s money, is the new headquarters of the lottery.
