Road Works in Hand
Parties of returned soldier employees are at present engaged renewing old wooden kerbing in Main, street west and Cuba street extension. Concrete channelling work is being done on 1 oxton line while relief workers have made a start with the construction of stormwater overflow channel along Poston lino to continue to the Mangaone stream the presont drain running parallel to the railway line. Good progress is being made with the construction of the stormwater drain in Eangitikei street from the Kawau stream to Peatherstone street, and eight chains of a total of 21 chains of work have been completed. The extension of the culvert at tho intersection of Te Awe Awe street and Pitzherbert avenue has been completed to enable the widening of the road and tho continuation of the footpath Tound the corner to be carried out. This will effect a distinct improvement and eliminate au awkward “bottle-neck.
