Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union

PAHIATUA BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Pahiatua branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was hold last week in the County Council Chambers. Mrs J. D. Piper (president) presided. On account of the bitterly cold weather prevailing there was a smaller attendance than usual. Circulars wore received from the Masterton branch advising that the organisation is holding a wool, butter and cheese campaign during the first week in March, in conjunction with Masterton Industries Week. There will be competitions for all kinds of knitted garments made of wool, also toys made from wool, and woollen eiderdowns. It is hoped that there will be entries from Pahiatua. Correspondence was received from the New Zealand Pan-Pacific Women’s Association, explaining the aims of the organisation and suggesting that the Pahiatua branch of the W.D.F.U. might become an associated member. This it was decided to do. The president reported that help had been given to several cases of distress in this district and a committee was set up to deal with this work. It was decided to hold a social afternoon in the Masonic Hall when it is hoped thero will be a good attendance of members and friends. Mrs H. Paterson has kindly agreed to give a short address on child welfare work. There will also be social items. It is hoped that Mrs C. C. Jackson, Dominion president, will be in attendance. Mrs. David Crewe gave an interesting report on some of the business brought before the Dominion Conference held in Wellington recently.
