Sacred Concert in Aid of Relief Fund

The Opera house was well illlcd last evening for the sacred concert presented on behalf of the Central Relief Committee's funds and arranged by Mr. J. Garde Grimshaw, of Palmerston JNorth, assisted by Miss Southey-Baker. As a result of the effort £l7 9s 2d was taken at tho door. The programme was as follows: —instrumental trio, “Hungarian Rhapsody," Miss Baker, Mr. Barnett and Mrs. Gilmour; part song,, “A JNegro Spiritual," Concert party; song ‘Hvciitide," Miss Pollard; instrumental quintette, (a) March, (b) “Giguo" (Bach), Miss Baker’s party; song with chorus, “Beside Still Waters,” Mrs. Grimshaw and party; recitation, “Tho freckle faced like Girl," Miss V. Wright; song, “What Shall I Sing You," Miss Tucker; violin solo, “Caprice Viennois," Miss D. Southey-Baker; song, “Like to the Damask Rose,” Mrs. Young; instrumental quintette, “Liebesfued," (Kreisler), Miss Baker's partv; song, “A Hcaji of Rose Leaves," Miss E. White; trio, “March Militaire," Miss Soutlicy-Bakcr, Mr. Barnett and Mrs. Gilmour. Mrs. Gilmour acted as accompanist. Mr. J. A. Nash was in charge of the programme and, at a suitable juncture tho Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mansford) expressed thanks to all ivlio had assisted in making the concert such a success. Thanks were due to Mr. P. Jackson for the use of tho Opera house, to tho stall and the Rotary Club members for assistance at tho doors, to Mr. J. Garde Grimshaw, Mrs. Grimshaw and pupils, to Miss Southey-Baker and pupils, and Mr. Barnett and Mrs Gilmour.

Tho Mayor also paid a tribute to the manner in which interested citizens were assisting the Relief Committee to raiso funds.
