Hurried Escape of Occupants
RAI VALLEY ACCOMMODATION HOUSE BURNED. FROST DELAYS WATER SUPPLY Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, Aug. 6. The Rai Valley accommodation house, on the road to Nelson, owned by M. Hart, and leased by G. Mosley, of 16 rooms, was totally destroyed by fire this morning, at half : past two. It was built six years ago. r .'”ic eleven inmates only had time to escape in their night attire. Splendid work by the residents saved the adjoining store and bakehouse, o- ed by M. Hart. A very heavy frost during the night made it difficult at first to obtain water, which circumstance hampered the fire-fighters’ efforts. The telephone wires were burnt through. Particulars of the insurances are not available, but Hart and Mosley are heavy losers.
