SCHOOL MATTERS. (From Our, Own Correspondent.) Those present at the monthly meeting of the District High School committee were Messrs Hornbiow (chaiiman), Perreau, Mudford, Hewett, Smith, Meyer, Robinson and Kangihcuca (secretary). The headmaster (Mr. Mason) reported that with the exception of the side school, rolls and attendances had undergone very little change during the month. Owing to the change-over in tho occupants of the All Saints' Children’s Home, the roll number ’ at the beach schooL had dropped to 115 and of these, four pupils were on the roll temporarily. During the month Inspectors Partridge and Merriugton inspected the primary school for the second time this year, and Inspector Crosbio visited the side school. The school heating system had functioned splendidly throughout the term. The school concert, held on July It), resulted in a net prolit of £24 Os !hl, which amount had been paid into the committee’s account. He had arranged with the agricultural instructor to apply to the Forestry Department for a supply of shrubs and small trees for planting the hillock facing Duncan street. Tho chairman reported that tho work of repairing tho roof of tho primary building would be undertaken during tho holidays.

A letter was received from Hie Women’s Relief Committee asking the committee for a grant, of £8 from the proceeds of the recent concert in order to assist in tho work of making children’s clothing. It, was decided to inform tho committee that the funds could not bo diverted for other than school purposes, but that the eommitteo would be pleased lo assist in any effort (o raise funds for such a deserving cause. General. A very pleasant social afternoon was held in tho Anglican schoolroom on Thursday under the auspices of tho All (Saints’ Ladies' Social Guild. During tho afternoon novel and interesting competitions were held, the winners being Mesdames R. Easton and R. Moore. Much appreciated vocal items wrnre contributed by Mesdames S. R. Austin, F. A. Mason and Hoigerson (Motuiti), while community singing was also indulged .iu and greatly appreciated. A dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by the following hostesses: Mesdames F. Robinson, D. Christie and .13. Francis. The social, which was a decided, success, was the lirst of a series of three to bo held monthly. Tho next of the scries takes place on August 20. In its endeavour to raise sufficient funds for tho purpose of erecting a pavilion at Manawatu heads for use during the coming summer, tho committee of the Foxton Surf and Life Saving Club has decided to hold a dance this evening in lho supper room of the Town hall.
