(From Our Own Correspondent.; Mr. and Mrs. K. Henry nave returned from a short holiday spent in Wcliiugton. ike Women’s institute euchre party held on Tuesday afternoon was well attended, Mcsdamcs Biaikie and Smith being the hostesses. The lirst prize was won by Mrs. J. A. Roach, Mrs. Radford being second. The annual meeting of the Shannon Croquet Club will be neid in Laurvig’s hall to-day. Ail members and intending members are requested to attend. The cake donated by Mr. J. Roach to the Shannon Relief Committee for competition was won by Mr. D. Laurvig. Owing to the Levin Operatic Society having changed their date for the performance ot -‘The Belle of New Yorit” from August 13 to the 20th inst., the Shannon school concert will now be held on the former date (August 13) as originally arranged. We nave been asked to state that only those on tho local unemployment register will receive relief at the local depot. The monthly meeting of the local branch of the Plunket Society was held on Monday evening, the president (Mrs. 11. V. Hudson) presiding over a fair attendance of members. The nurse’s report was as follows: —Visits to Shannon, 4; visits to homes, 21; adults to rooms, 46; babies to rooms, 38; older children, 7; total, 91. During the month there were two men cases. The rainfall for July was 5.33 inches, being tho heaviest Shannon has experienced for a number of years; while the rainfall for June was 5.88 inches. May’s rainfall was 2.85 inches. The corresponding rainfall last year was July 1.48, June 2.27 and. May 2.34.
