Important Grassland Conference Held at P.N.
REPRESENTATIVES PRESENT FROM VARIOUS CENTRES
No previous meeting,of its kind kas been so full of potentialities for grass land advancement as tho conference held in Palmerston North yesterday of representatives of interests concerned with all aspects of grass farming. Commencing yesterday, this important gathering will not conclude its deliberations until to-morrow. Mr. A. 11. Cockayne, assistant-Dircctor-Goneral of Agriculture, is presiding, and Mr. R. P. Connell, of the Department of Agriculture, is acting as secretary. Also attending aro Messrs. E. B. Levy, J. W. Hadfield, A. W. Hudson, J. W Woodcock, W. J. McCulloch, E. J. Fawcett (Department of Agriculture), Dr. H. H. Allan, Messrs. B. W. Doak (Plant Research Station), M. J. Scott, A. H. Flav (Canterbury Agricultural College), Dr. Annctt,- Messrs. W. V. Blewett, G. H. Holford (Imperial Chcmical Industries), Dr. Askew (Cawthron Institute), Professor Pcrcn, Messrs. I. L. Scrivener, W. A. Jacques (Massey Agricultural College), F. R. Callaghan (Department of Scientific and Industrial Research), L. Napier (Pacific. Potash, Ltd.), P. W. Aitkcn (Dominion Fertilisers, Ltd., Dunedin), A. C. Cathie (New Zealand Seed Merchants J Fcdeiation), H. A. Taylor, C. S. Stewart (Kempthorne, Prosser and Co., . Ltd., Wanganui and Auckland respectively), C M Richwhitc (Challenge Phosphate Co., Ltd., Auckland), J. Wilson (New Zealand Farmers’ Fertiliser Co., Ltd., Auckland). Mr. Cockayne gave an address covering tho developments that had led up to the meeting, and touched upou the objectives of the conference. Papers were * contributed by Mr. A. W. Hudson, who reviewed the fertiliser position, with special reference to the problems attaching to it; Mr. E. Bruce Levy, who gave a review of tho present and future aspects of the “strain” position; and Mr. F. L. C. Scrivener, who dealt with lime research at Massey Agricultural College. A special meeting of the conference committee was held last evening.
