Happenings in Milson Suburb
The discontinuance of tho streor lighting at Milson is being keenly resented by the residents. There are about 60 railway houses in the district, and the occupants going to or coming from work at all hours during the night are seriously handicapped. On Tuesday night the Kolvin Grove Eootball Club held a very successful dance in the Milson hall. The music was supplied by an orchestra, and the dance continued until the early hours, the 40 couples present being loath to lctive. Messrs. Kelliker and Benton proved efficient M.C.'s. The lucky spot dance was won by Mrs. Murphy and Mr. Toon.
The popularity of tho dances held in the Milson hall by the Progressive Association was again evidenced by tho largo number of patrons who attended on Saturday last, despite the inclement weather. The hall wa s tastefully decorated by Mr. and Mrs. H. Carter. Mr. J. Donaldson supplied tho music, extras being played by Mesdamcs Murphy and Barclay. The Monte Carlo dances proved very popular, the floor being taxed to capacity for each one. J .Supper was provided by the ladies’ committee.
Mr. J. C. A. Donaldson has returned home after spending a vacation in Auckland. Mr. 11. Dewhurst, of Cambridge street, is at present confined to bed through illness. Tho water channels and culverts in this district have recently been cleaned out, enabling all stormwater to get away freely. This ha s proved very beneficial, and is much appreciated by pedestrians, tho recent rains having no detrimental effect on tho footpaths. The euchro and dance held recently to augment the funds of the Milson School Committee proved a great success. About 60 people were seated for euchre. The gentlemen’s first prize was won by Mr. Power, Mr. Kobertson an-
nexing tho second prize, whilst the consolation prize went to Master McKenzie. Por the ladies, Mrs. Barclay proved victorious, winning from Miss Munro, Mrs. Toon receiving the consolation prize. A very pleasant dance followed. The music was in the capable hands of Mrs. Murphy, whilst Mrs. Barclay and Mr. Carey contributed extras. The renewing of the metal on tho read from Montreal street to the school has proved a boon to the children, who arc now able to reach their classrooms with dry feet.
