“Stepping Out” Should Make Splendid Appeal
A particularly strong cast has been assembled by Metro-Goidwyn-Maycr for “Stepping Out,’’ the big comedy of marriage entanglements which will be seen for the llrst time in Palmerston North at the Palace on August 22. Charlotte Greenwood, so popular in “So Long Letty,’’ and also in “Parlour, Bedroom and Bath,’’ is the bright particular star of the cast. Reginald Benny and Leila Hyams arc one married couple, while Harry Stubbs and Miss Greenwood are another. Lillian Bond and Mcrna Kennedy are the beautiful “gold-diggers’’ who slip into the picture when the wives go for a holiday, and Cliff Edwards and .Richard Tucker, on the other hand, are the men who entertain the neglected wives when they give their “bachelor” husbands a taste of their own medicine. The story is laid at Hollywood, the theme being the “backing” of pictures as a speculation—with entangling results all round. An elaborate swimming pool sequence is one featuro . of the many line settings, while the dialogue is particularly funny from beginning to end.
