Penalising Thrift

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Owing to the depression in the stock and wool market I have lost my job. I have never been inside a courthouse; have lived honestly and have brought up a family of six. Because 1 have a few pounds in the Post Office Savings Bank I cannot get a job on the unemployment schemes. I am desirous of going on a farm, but because 1 have no cash that is out of the question, i can do anything on a farm—grazing or agricultural work. Am I to spend my little hard-earned cash beforo I can get anything to do, or get anything from the Unemployment Board? I know 1 am not the only one in this position. 1 realise that our Government is up against it, but surbly it could find me something to do, whore I can still go on earning an honest living, and leading an honest life. Perhaps my experience of farm w'ork will bo of use to someone.—l am, etc., A. J. IRELAND, Rangiwahia
