Aston Takes the Sprint m Very Fast Time
The Feilding Jockey Club’s Easter meeting was brought to a successful conclusion yesterday in line weather. There was a large attendance of the public and the racing was again interesting, with some very close finishes. The track was in perfect order.
The Easter Handicap resulted in a victory for the Taranaki horse, Paitonu, which scored convincingly from Calamine though Calamine made up a lot of ground over the last bit. The open eprint was won by Aston in the fast time of 1.12 1-5 and he was a couple of lengths clear of Orapai at the finish. The Hack Cup race was an interesting one and in a gcod finish Mahora prevailed by a neck from Grand Jury with Spearful in fourth place. The totalisator investments during the day amounted to £18,954, as against £29,466 for the corresponding day last year. For the meeting the figures were £35,866, as compared with £58,117, the total decrease being £22,251.
