The death is reported by cable from London of Katherine Tynan, the noted novelist and poet. A Nelson telegram reports the death of Mr. John Webley, aged S 5, an old and respected resident of that city. Mr J. McKenzie has been elected to represent the Umutoi riding on the Pohangina County Council to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late Mr H. Knight. Guests at the Midland Hotel, Palmerston North, during the past week included Miss j. Falconer (Mastcrton), Mr. and Mrs. 'Lockheed (Amuri, Canterbury), Miss J. Johnson (New Plymouth), Misses Anderson (Carterton), Mr. J. B. Short (Gisborne), Mr. D. M. Morrisey (Hawera), Mr. McConnochie (Napier), Miss McLauchlan, Misses Z. and D. Parkinson, Mr. G. Arthur, Colonel Mitchell. Mr. P. D. Fitzherbert, Mr. M. B. Forsyth, Mr. G. R. Powell, Mr. G. Dutchie, Mr. Peacock, Mr. Bailey, Dr. McGubbin and Dr. and Mrs. and Miss Jacobcnscn.
