Mr. H. Clifford Jones, who has been in charge of tho local post office for tho past seven years, has received notice of his transfer to Eltham. Harvest Festival services were celebrated in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday and a sale of produce and a social will be held to-night. A largo number of girls attended the weekly meeting of the Shannon Girls’ Club. The roll call (a now idea' for a club meeting) was well responded to aud some very novel ideas were offered. After tho usual business had been transacted, Mrs. McKenzie gave a lesson on poster work. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, April 9.

An unfortunato accident betel Mr. Harold Woodmass on Friday morning whilst working on the drainage scheme. In company with several others he was cutting out willow roots. Mr. Harold Buekman severed a root, and tho root being soft, his axo went right through and caught Mr. Woodmass above tne ankle, inflicting a very ugly wound. Prompt action by Mr. Buckinan, who rapidly applied two tourniquets above the wound, saved the situation and Mr. Woodmass was carried from tho swamp and sent to Levin, where he was immediately ordered to Palmerston North public hospital for an operation.

PRESENTATION. On Saturday, just prior to the closing of the Shannon Co-operativo Dairy Company’s store, the factory staff met to bid farewell to Miss S. Quarrie, who is severing her connection, in order to get married. Mr. J. Aim, factory manager, in bidding her farewell, wished her the best of health, wealth and happiness in her new life and asked her to accept a cut glass crystal water jug and six goblets from tho staff of the store and factory. Miss Quarrie replied with a short speech of thanks.

FOOTBALL. The annual meeting of the Shannon Football Club drew a fair attendance of members. Mr. A. Richards, president, presented the annual report, which was adopted.

The Kia Toa Club, Palmerston North, are to be written to inviting them to play senior and junior interchange matches, prior to the commencement of the competition games.

CRICKET. On Saturday afternoon Shannon registered another win by defeating Te Horo at Te Horo by 61 runs to 43. Batting for Shannon, Gee, one of the opening pair, carried his bat for 35 and was the only member to score double figures. For Te Horo, Rolfe was the highest scorer with 8. Bowling for Shannon Gee with three wickets for four runs and Goodwin three for seven were most successful, whilst Larsen with six wickets for 19 headed To Horo’s trundlers. On Saturday two rinks front tho Haitaitai Club, Wellington, paid a friendly visit to Shannon, where an enjoyable time was spent on the bowling green on Saturday afternoon and evening. On Sunday thoy made a tour of tho Mangahao works. On Saturday afternoon two friendly games with the Shannon Club resulted as follow, Shannon being mentioned first: —

Cronquest, Pilkinton, Quarrie, Blackwood (s) defeated Wallace, McCrea, Stonebaits, Bertram (s) 36 —8; in the other game Henry, Hudson, Morgan, C. Hook (s) drew with Norrie, Pinnock, Anderson and Dowling (s).

CROQUET. In the final for Mrs. Leng-Ward’s trophy, handicap singles, Mrs. Mason defeated Mrs. Brann by winning the first game 26—13 and the third game by 26 —11. Mrs. Brann tooK the second game by 26 —18. For the first life of the Butt Cup Mrs. Leng-Ward (7) defeated Mrs. Snelling (7) by 26 —17. In the final of the first life Mrs. Leng-Ward defaulted to Mr. Leng-Ward.
