Suggestion of One Control For Drainage Boards

At a meeting of farmers at Bangiotu this week, when ratepayers were present front the Manawntu, Ivairanga and Oroua Counties, the suggestion was made that the several small. drainage hoards in the Manawatu district should amalgamate and bring their function under the one control. Following a discussion on rates and interest charges, Mr D. Collis drew attention to the operations of four small drainage boards which, he said, were very close to each other. He considered that by merging, they would reduce administrative costs, and probably the. rates. Mr W. H. Ginvblctt, considered that there were too many boards, this adding to the cost of production He thought that one board could do the work quite as efficiently . Mr L. Poupard said a suggestion on those lines could bo made to. drainage board members for consideration. A resolution was carried recommending this course of action to the drainage boards.
