Novel Conclusion to the Dinner Meal

Here is an opportunity for tho housewife to introduce a bit of novelty to the conclusion of a meal, in the way of spiced raisins, a stuffed fig or a ball of chopped nuts and dried fruits sometimes called "plum pudding candy." This last item is easily made by putting through a meat grinder equal quantities of seeded raisins, pitted dates, layer figs, cooked dried apricots and assorted nutmeats. The resulting paste is then formed into smfill balls and rolled either in granulated sugar or grated orange peel. Stuffed figs are of tho “bag" variety such as come in foreign groceries. They are very inexpensive and when steamed, cut open and stuffed with chopped nuts, are delicious. A bit of marshmallow or candied cherry is an improvement. For spiced raisins choose large, plump ones. Remove the seeds and fry them in hot oil for about a minute. Drain thoroughly and sprinkle lightly with cinnamon and ginger, or salt and paprika, according to taste. This method of serving nuts and dried fruits is entirely different from tho service of salted nuts as an accessory at a formal meal. When substituted for a sweet course the nuts are not salted and are not removed from the cracked shells.
