The ladies who havo been giving their services so willingly at the clothing depot in the Showgrounds aro still having a very busy time. On Wednesday morning from 9.15 to 12, to quote an averago occasion, at least 100 women were fitted out with clothea and as many children. The helpers fire ou duty long hours and are busy the whole time sorting clothes, old and new, making up orders for outside cases, and fitting the pcopfio who line up in queues each day. Mrs H. Palmer, who is head of this depot, .reports that parcels and boxes of things have eomo from a wido area and that it is wonderful tho way the whole of the people of New Zealand have responded to the call for clothes. There aro at present 350 women and 644 children in camp at the Showgrounds and 72 women and 143 children at Awapuni and more things aro still required. At- the moment there is urgent need of stockings, boots and shoes—all kinds of childrens footwear. The ladies are deeply thankful for all the wonderful gifts and feel that so long as there is need tho goods will bo forthcoming. At the Plunket Booms. The Plunket rooms on tho Showgrounds always present a hivo of industry. Everything possible has been provided in tho rooms to assist tho mothers and babies and those who are assisting there have plenty to occupy their time. A difficulty confronting those in charge to-day is a shortage of supplies of singlets. In particular, there is need of singlets and little pants for boys and girls from two to six years of age. Tho washing machine, kindly loaned by Beattie Bros., has proved a boon to the mothers and from 8 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. each day full advantage is taken of this facility and indeed of all the facilities provided at this "home away from home.”
