The City Council last evening decided to notify holders of street stalls that the sale of meat at street stalls will bo prohibited unless the animals are slaughtered at the city abattoir.

At the ltotary Club luncheon yesterday afternoon votes of condolence were passed to Mrs W. H. K. Gilmour, on the loss of her husband, and to the relatives of the late Mr S. A. Longuet, a member of the Wellington Rotary Club, who was drowned when endeavouring to save the life of a Maori girl who got into difficulties while bathing at the Otaki beach.

With regard to the sessions of the Supreme Court, Palmerston North, a notice under the hand of the Sheriff of tho Supremo Court appears in this issue notifying grand jurors summoned that their services arc not required. Particular attention is drawn to the fact that this- does not apply to common jurors, who must attend as stated in. thak suexmoiyfa*. .

Owing to an error tho railway picnic was in yesterday’s paper, stated to be scheduled for Saturday, February 8 and this should have read Sunday, February S. Miss Dorothy Ferguson, whose vocation in life induced her to spend several years among tho South Sea Islanders, will relate some, experiences and impressions at the Citizens’ Lunch Club today. Mr G. G. Priest will preside. Petitions in bankruptcy have been filed with the D.O.A. in Palmerston North by Wesley Herbert Passey, retailer, Palmerston North; Robert Locke, farmer, of Levin; and Gcorgo Isaac Bradley, soft goods manufacturer, of Palmerston North.
