Water Pressure and Insurance Premiums

COMPANY NOT SURE IMPROVEMENT EFFECTED After tho artesian boro at Heretaunga streot was connected up with the city water mains, tho council made application to tho Underwriters’ Association for the long promised reduction in fire premiums wiien once the pressure was improved. In reply the secretary of the Underwriters’ Association has notified the Palmerston North City Council that lie intends making an inspection of the improvements effected to the water .supply before considering any revision of the fire insuranco tariff.

The manager of the Northern- Assurance Company, however, wrote stating that ho had obtained from the fire brigade, tables showing the pressures on the gauge at the fire station for December, 1929, aud December, 1930. He regretted to note that these did not indicate much improvement but before presenting his report he would be glad to know if tho council would like the city engineer to go into tho matter. The Mayor (Mr. A. J. Graham) said he was rather astonished that the manager had not waited on the engineer while in Palmerston North.

Cr. A. E. Mansford pointed out that the report was not consistent with the facts. There had been an improvement and the engineer had stated so lyThe Mayor: It is absolutely essential that the information should be supplied. There is no doubt considerable improvement has been effected.
