Professional Cycling
The Palmerston North riders competed last night in a hard contested 3-mile mile race. The winner turned out to be the veteran Tider ,Teddy Burrell, who rode a heady race and won by a wheel from S. Ward, and J. Hill third, finishing fast. Owing to the track being under repairs this was the only race competed. A meeting of the committee was held on Thursday night and it was decided to give Palmerston North school children a treat in the way of a gigantic picnic on Saturday, January 3rd. A satisfactory programme has been arranged for the children and five cycling races for the club riders. Arrangements are being made for the Palmerston North Pipe Band to be in attendance. A. E. Ellis, the New Plymouth rideT who gained third place and second fastest time in the round-the-mountain will be competing. The result of the cyclists’ competition is as follows: H. Booth Ist, P. Hall 2nd, L Jacobs 3rd.
