Obituary

MR. JENS PETER CHRISTIANSEN,

The death occurred at Dannevirke on Monday evening, of Mr Jens Peter Christiansen of MePhee street. The deceased, who was 76 yoars of age had not enjoyed good health for some weeks. For a fortnight he, with Mrs Christiansen, had been staying with his sou in Princess street. Deceased had been talking with his son in the kitchen when he had a seizure and his death occurred shortly after. Born in Denmark in 1854, the late Mr Christiansen, when 21 years of age, came out to New Zealand in the sailing ship Fritzroiter, landing at Napier in 1875. Later he came to Dannevirke, and just on 49 years ago was married in Dannevirke to Miss Mary Gronebeek, whose parents came out in the ship Ballarat in 1872, taking up a block of 40 acres where the Dannovirke hospital now stands. Had the late Mr Christiansen been spared the couple would have celebrated their golden wedding in September of next year. Deceased, who was a wood worker and mechanic, had been in the employ ol Messrs C. L. Neilsen and Co., Ltd., for many years, and at one time had also been on the staff of Collett and tion, Ltd. He was of a quiet disposition, his chief hobby being mechanics—he could mend anything from “a needle to an anchor,” ns the saying is. Ho is survived by his wife and two sons Mossrs G. Christiansen (Princess Street), Karl Christiansen (Woodville), and two daughters, Mrs M. O. Neilsen (Picton) and Mrs Fred Do Malmanche (Woodville), who will have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends and acquaintances in their sudden bereavement.
