British Birthrate Lowest on Record
DEATH KATE HIGHER. THE TOLL OP THE MOTOR. LONDON, Aug. 30. Tho birth, rate for 1929 was the lowest since tho establishment of registration. The death Tate was tho highest since 1919. A statistical review of England and Wales discloses that the birth rate for 1929 was 16.3 per thousand, compared with 16.7 in 1928, and tho death rato 13.4 compared with 11.7. Tho increase is due to the high mortality from respiratory and circulatory diseases, plus tho influenza epidemic. The suicide rate was 126 per million, the highest recorded. Motor-ears caused 5799 deaths, compared with 4492 in 1927.
