Sheepskins and Hides

Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report: We held our usual fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides, tallow and sundries on Friday afternoon at Wellington. The offering was representative of all descriptions and was submitted to the usual attendance of exporters, tanners,

fellmongcrs and the local trade. Sheepskins: There was a fair demand for all qualities at a lower level of values. Dry skins wore generally Id. to Jd. a pound lower than out last quoted rates. Inferior, damaged, shabby and seedy parcels sold at lower rates. Salted skins were easier by Od. to 9d. each. Hides: Some nice parcels of abattoir hides were submitted. Prices .for heavies and mediums, in sympathy with the Australian markets, showed a decline of from :)d, to -Id. per jiound. Lightweight- hides, kip and yearling ruled firm at late rates. Calf was in better demand, prices being a little better than previous quotations. Tallow: Good offerings were submitted, prices being unchanged. The following is the range of prices: Sheepskins: Half bred, 6)d. to 62d.; fine crossbred, 6d. to 71d.; medium crossbred, s)d. to 7:id.; coarse crossbred, 5Jd. to 7d.; half-wools, 4Jd. to 64d.; quarter-wools, 3d. to 64d.; pelts, 3Jd. to 5Jd. Salted skins, half-wools, 2/4 to 4/5; thrce-quartcr-woois, 5/- to 5/2; full-wools, to 5/7; lambs, 1/6 to 2/6. Hides: Ox, fc3-441b., 4-Jd. to 5d.; ox, 45-521 b., 4Jd. to s»d.j ox, 53-591 b., 4Jd. to si|d.; ox, 60-691 b., sd. to ssd.; ox, 701 b. and over, sld. to 5f.; cow, 33-39 lb., 4d. to 5M.; cow, 40-481 b., 3£d. to 5Hd.; cow, 491 b. and over., 3£d. to 5Jd.; kip, 25-32, 4Jd. to BJd.; kip, 17-24, sld. to -BJd.; yearling, 11-16, 4|d. to Bgd.; calf, 9-10, 6d. to 7Jd ; calf, 6-S, sd. to 94d.; calf, 1-5, ojd. to 9|d. Tallow: In casks, 21/- per cwt.; in tins, etc., 6/- to 20/-. Sundries: Cow tails, 9d. to lOd. per lb.; horsehair, 15d.
