Rice, of Te Rehunga, Dannevirke. Mr. Rice secured 11 in-calf two-year-old heifers and a yearling bull from the well-known Ahikouka herd of Hu (X A. Cadwallader, Greytown. The purchaser was attracted to Mr. Cadwallader’s herd by the many great production records credited to it and by its splendid record of successes in the show ring. The majority of the heifers were sired by Mr. Cadwallader : s well-known show and butter-fat bred bulls, Mooie Ormsby (son of the Manawatu champion, Colony Champion Ormsby, imported by Mr. Wni. Barton), and Friens Mercedes Sarcastic Lad (linebred to Woodcrest Joe, imported by the New Zealand Government). The dams of these heifers were sired by the famous breeding bull, Dominion Dutehiand,' eire of many famous producers and champions, including the famous North Island champion, Jessie Monona Johanna of Oakview, which produced 726 lb. of fat as a junior two-year-old, and the four-year-old 8001 b. butter-fat cow, Buttercup HI of Ashley, which produced 1251 b. of fat in one month. These heifers are in calf to King Olga Ormsby, and included amongst them is the grand-daughter of Cluna Pietje Hope XIU, which won the Royal championship at Invercargill last December, having been sold by Mr. Cadwallader to a southern breeder to compete for that honour. Mr. Rico has undoubtedly secured a splendid foundation for his herd.

ANNUAL O.K. JERSEY SALE One of the largest gatherings of buyers that has attended a sale of stud Jersey cattle this year was present on Thursday at Takanini, near Auckland, to participate in Mr. A. E. Wat km’s third annual sale of in-calf heifers and stud bulls. A great attraction of the sale was the line of yearling sons of the imported heTd sire, Oxford Beau’s Combination, purchased at the recordbreaking Cooper sale held at Wellington two years ago for the great sum of 2000 guineas. Twenty-orxo young bulls by this sire averaged 65 guineas. They were an outstanding lot. A great struggle ensued for possession of the nine-months-old bull, O.K. Nobly Born, and Mr. Fred. Cullen, of Maungaturoto, secured him for the record price of the year, 308gns. Several Taranaki breeders participated, but the linal contest

lay between Mr. Cullen and the Aucklandbreeder, Mr. Balfour Irving. In addition to being sired by Oxford Beau’s Combination, this bull was out of the great butter-fat cow, Woodstock Feeria, with a butter-fat record as a four T yearrold of 7291 b. of fat, while her dam, Woodstock Fairy, has a mature record of S3slb. fat. Mr. Irving later secured a young son of Brampton Coy Volunteer (imp.) and Oaklands Silky, winner of the second Stratford Futurity Stakes, at 105 guineas. The bull calf by Oxford Beau’s Combination which won first prize at the Auckland show last autumn realised 104gns. to the bid of Mr. R. Hicks, Hawera. The best price for a two-year-old bull was 100gns. for a son of Meadowvale Derby Day and the great producing three-year-old, Monandria (7371 b. fat). The purchaser was Mr. W. Murphy, of Taranaki. The 38 bulls, which included eight two-year-olds, averaged 52gns., and 23 .heifers iji calf to Oxford Beau’s Combination and the undefeated yearling bull, Roseland Lord Aldan (imp.), averaged 58 guineas. The -high standard of the O.K. Jerseys is indicated by the fact that the 62 lots sold! for 3350gns. There was a keen demand for the in-calf heifers. Ninety guineas was paid for a daughter of Meadowvale Derby Day in calf to Roseland Lord Aldan, and a similar price ‘ for a daughter of Fontaine of O.K. in calf to Oxford Beau’s Combination. The sale, which was the most spirited of the year, was conducted by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., stud stock salesmen. The greater portion of th» sale was broadcast "by IYA Auckland.
