Dannevirke

Prom Our Own Correspondent. Correction. The two players who were ordered off in the Pirates-Tipapakuku Pug by match on Saturday were 0. Crooks and Bonne, not McKay as previously ro. ported. Sunday Evening’s Concert by Danncvirke Municipal Band. The Dannevirke Municipal Band, with assisting artists, rendered a very fine programme in the Town hali, Dannevirke, on Sunday evening. The concert was on the lines of those given by Wellington bands each Sunday evening, the proceeds going to assist local unemployment relief. Although a good Sunday evening crowd attended, just over £5 was realised by the silver collection taken at the door. Vocal items by Miss C. P. Mercer and elocutionary numbers by Miss M. Carswell and Mr. Manley were enthusiastically encored, Accompanists were Miss G. Brown an'i Mr. C. Liddington. The band numbers were:—Hymn, “Nearer, Still Nearer”; overture, “Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna”; inarch, “Old Contemptibles’i” Intermezzo, “Wedding of the Pose”; selection, “Bigoletto”; Fantasia, “Prom a Russian Village”; march, “The British Legion;” The band, under the conductorship of Mr. J. H. Hardiman, gave a splendid rendering of these numbers, although tho lack of sufficient cometist's proved a strain on the soloists in a series of heavy numbers. The conductor, Mr. Hardiman, addressing the audience, said that in future concerts the band wished to play tho class of music the public wanted and invited the public to nominate their favourite numbers. These, ho said, would be included in the programmes providing the music was available. The band must bo commended upon taking tho initiative in assisting a worthy cause and it is to bo hoped that this effort will be followed by more of its kind. > Personal. Mr. and Mrs. W. McGrath are at present on a holiday visit to tho Wairarapa.
